11/5/11 - Vinayasa Yoga

This  I went to Be Luminous Yoga.  The class was amazing.  The room was warm and inviting especially given the chili weather.  My friend Zach came and joined me and Jessica led us through the flows.

Sun Salutations really felt great.  I did all my chaturangas on my knees because I’m trying to focus on control and arm strength.

We moved through Sun Salutation A and B, into the warrior 1 & 2, extended side angle, triangle, and pyramid.  We did a standing one legged flow ending in airplane which left me feeling powerful.  We moved into Garudasana for a while and then came back down onto our mat.  Once on the mat we moved into Locust and Bow Pose, then came to our knees for Camel.

After Camel we moved into Pigeon.  At this point in class I was pretty tired and raw, my face was down on my mat, as I breathed into the posture.  I began to feel a strong rush of emotions.  Love for this practice, for myself, for those I care about.  It was a bit overwhelming, but I channeled the energy sank into the pose and directed it outward sending light and love out to all the people I felt connected to at this very moment.  It was a very powerful and moving experience.

Finally we ended up with Bridge and Shoulder Stand.  I loved shoulder stand today, the inversion felt energizing.  Finally we ended with a few rounds of bridge and then settled into savasana.

It was definitely a tough class, she kept us moving, but my body felt amazing.  It felt a little transcendental.  Yes it felt warm, but I just breathed.  Sometimes my body was tired, and holding the poses especially chair pose was hard, but I just breathed through it.

After class Zach and I grabbed Brunch at Portage Bay.  I got the winter hash, which included pearl onions, sweet potatoes, winter greens and other root vegetables topped with scrambled eggs.  On the side I got an apple pecan muffin with almond butter that was absolutely to die for.  The food was great and hopefully will help fuel my frisbee game this afternoon!
