12/18/11 - 5 mile run
Long run number 2 in my preparation for the Rock ‘n Roll USA Half Marathon.  It was gray and cloudy out today, nothing like the sunshine of yesterday, but it wasn’t too cold out.
So after a morning of sweatpants and football, I finally nike combat geared up, laced up my brooks adrenaline and headed out the door.
I had a great new playlist and I felt good as soon as I started running.  I headed out to Volunteer Park, then down to Interlaken.  I love running through Interlaken.  Its peaceful, secluded and surrounded by trees.  It feels like you are in a totally different world.
But to run on Interlaken you have to pay the price of running back up 10th street a .7 mile hill climb during which you gain about 150 feet of elevation. Its good for me right? By the time I got up the hill I was so happy to be on flat road again that my 5th and final mile was my fastest ran in 10:04. My mile splits were all over the place (11:20, 10:32, 11:12, 12:42, 10:04) on this run, but I think its mostly due to the elevation changes (gain and loss of 367 feet), I ran mostly just by feel even though I had my garmin and I felt like I was giving an even effort throughout!
