4/26/13 - East Side SC Class
Today’s class was once again a struggle to get to. I will be so happy when my presentation is over today so I can sleep more, and not have my brain going a million miles an hour till midnight every day. As always I was super glad I went.
Overhead Press
- 5 x 20 kilos
- 3 x 24 kilos
Working Weight 3 x 4 x 30 kilos
30 kilos is so much heavier than 29! I did this weight last time but was only able to do sets of 3. The last rep in the last set was a challenge, but I fought. I swear it took me at least a minute to get it up. But I committed and fought it the whole way.
The boys were squatting today, so while they finished up I discussed my dream from the previous night in which I could do a Kipping Pull Up. So I started screwing around and hanging from the bar, and practicing my Kip Swings.
Finally onto the WOD
6 x 40m Prowler Springs w/40kilos - 2 min rest in between.
I did the same weight as the boys. This felt hard but empowering. Then we started talking about the prowler challenge. Which is 8 minutes 40kilos, and how ever many laps you can get.
Bring it On! I looked at the record bored and for women 11 seems to be the number to beat!

4/25/13 - East Side SC Class
It took a while to get my butt out of bed this morning. But I dragged myself to the gym!
Deadlift

4/24/13 - Ultimate Frisbee Practice
Wednesday night I met up with Space Invaders for practice. It was a glorious day out. We played a quick circle drill with a two person cup. We then moved into practicing handler dump cuts, and then moved to Mini. I had a blast the whole time. Was great to see the Space folk during the week, and I had super sticky hands last night so I made some crazy catches it was awesome!
Looking forward to games this weekend, and more frisbee practices. I can finally consistently make them!
4/23/13 - East Side SC Class
I could only stay for the first part of class since I had a dentist appointment at 10. I figured getting some work in was better than getting no work in.

4/21/13 - Spring League Frisbee Game
My mom was in town visiting all weekend and she came out to see my game on Sunday with Space Invaders! We played Cowabunga. It was a bit drizzly out, but we came out strong, taking the first two points.
Space Invaders played really well. It felt like we were really controlling the game. In the first half I mostly handled, but ended up scoring two goals off of time outs by cutting from the back of the stack!
We took half 8 to 5 I believe. The Second half we were on a roll, and took the game 15 to 7. We played hard D, and had a great offensive flow. I mostly handled, and felt pretty comfortable and confident!
4/18/13 - East Side SC Class
This morning I dragged myself out of bed, after being out late with Lilia for her birthday. I figured an extra hour of sleep wouldn’t really make a big difference so I put on my spandex and went to the gym.

I’ve never Jerk’d before so that was new. I think I got it down pretty well. I need to work on dropping faster.

This was tough. I can’t do jump to holds. I basically just jump and fall. Also people kept talking about how easy rope climbs are and I can’t do them. It was really frustrating, and with all the personal drama lately I started crying on my way out the door for my second run. I choked back tears and got it together by the time I got back and finished my workout.
It was good to finish, the other women only did 3 rounds, but I did 4. I just feel like I need a PR or to do something I’m good at. Having things I was failing at was hard.

Back in the gym this morning. My legs still feel a bit destroyed from frisbee this weekend.

I jumped up another kilo and struggled a bit here today. But still new plates! And big boy plates at that!
Beep
After lifting we did Beep, you run 20m every beep, and they get increasingly faster. It will be our benchmark at the end of the month.
I have never done this before, and so I started out way too fast and then my shoe came untied twice forcing all out sprints to catch up after I tied it. I only made it to 5.10 before I decided I had had enough, and didn’t want to trash my legs any more.
I’ll save the all out mind grueling destruction for the actual benchmark in two weeks. Lessons learned Tie your shoes really tight, and chill out the first few rounds.

4/15/13 - East Side SC Class
Getting to class this morning was a struggle. Not only was I exhausted from late afternoon frisbee games the previous day, but I had a bit of an emotional evening and didn’t sleep well. I felt drained.
I dragged my butt to the gym though. I decided I wouldn’t Squat today as my legs were wasted, and it would probably do more harm than good.

I jumped up a kilo so I knew this would be hard. But I did pretty well. I’ll repeat this weight next week.
Then I did lots of stretching and rolled my Adductors with the barbell.

4/14/13 - Spring League Ultimate Frisbee Double Header
Sunday afternoon I had a double header with Space Invaders. For our first game we played Blue Footed Boobies a very skilled and athletic team. They were savage. We had a bit of trouble the first half, and they took it 8 to 3. The second half we faired much better matching them, but they still one the game 15 to 10. I had fun playing them, we really turned up our defense at the end and wanted it. It was fun to see Space be so energetic.
The second game was against Fish Is Meat. They had fresh legs, and we lost a woman giving us only one sub. We came out hard, and traded points for a while. During one point Maddy got slammed into and was out for the rest of the game leaving us Savage women. Joy. Fish took half 8 to 6.
The second half was rough. For some reason we had trouble with the zone they were throwing. Mostly we were just tired and making mistakes I think. I ended up handling most of the second half, which was a bit nerve wrecking, as I haven’t played in a month. But I think I did well even with two big male marks in the cup. JB on the mark was obnoxiously close so I’d pivot and shove my butt back into him to get him to back up. It was pretty funny.
We ended up going down 14 to 6. We were feeling very low on spirits as we took the field for what we thought was the last point. Instead we went on a 3 point tear. Which felt great. Fish eventually won 15 to 9, but I felt good about how we played at the end of the game.
4/12/13 - Verns Hat League
Friday night I met up with my new Verns Hat League Team Knock on Wood. The league started last week, but I had been in Vegas. It was kind of a gross night, rainy and cold, but we had a fun time. There is no score in this league. It is meant for teaching. I actually got loaned to the other team since they had so few people and I valued playing time.
It was a lot of fun while being a bit chaotic having so many new players. The spirits were high and we had a great time. I was definitely a little rusty though. I haven’t played in a month!
4/10/13 - East Side SC Class
Today we had Carrie. Kat is out for the morning. Carrie classes are always super hard, but really good.
We started out with Cleans. Today I felt like I really got the jump down. The trick for me is thinking about pushing my butt up first, it gets me a very powerfull jump, where the bar goes weightless. I also practiced the hook grip.

2 reps every minute for 11 minutes (30 kilos (first 6), 31 kilos (last 5))
I decided to add some weight mid round because I wasn’t jumping hard enough. I was just muscling it up. This worked up a good sweat, and I felt like my form was really improving.
WOD - 4 rounds w/rest
- 15 x 20lb Medicine Ball Slam
- 5 burpees
- 25 x 16kilo Kettle Bell Swing
We did this with a buddy. So you rested while they did their set. Oh my god was this hard. By the time I got to the Kettle Bell Swings my abs were exhausted, which is a good sign. It was grueling, but I pushed through.
Now I can’t really lift my arms above my head oh well. Time to program

4/9/13 - East Side SC Class
Back at the gym after a mini hiatus. I was travelling a bunch and got lazy. Then this past weekend I was in Las Vegas. Clearly I needed a beating. Today’s class provided just that

After squatting it was sled pull time. My one vegas regret was there was clearly not enough rocking out to Ke$ha on this trip. So I remedied that by listening to her while I dragged my sled.

3/31/13 - 2.5 mile run
The gym was closed this morning, a fact I only found out after driving there. So instead I came home and laced up my running shoes for the first time in a long time. It was a gorgeous day out.
The run was slow, and I took a small walk break after tackling a big hill in volunteer park, but overall I really enjoyed it. Perhaps I need a running come back.

3/30/13 - Yoga
This morning’s yoga class as much needed. The stretching felt great, but the inner peace is something I cherish and find no where else. The calm and quiet found on my mat while flowing through vinyasas is unique.
Class was great, lots of Vinyasas, some balancing including a flow with an airplane transition that I rocked. It was awesome!

3/27/13 - East Side SC Class
I’m back in the gym after my PAX East Hiatus. I had packed work out clothes but after working at the convention each day I was just exhausted.
Overhead Press
- 5 x 20 kilos
- 5 x 24 kilos
- 3 x 29 kilos* i thought this was 27kilos I can’t count
3 sets 5 reps 29 kilos
I failed to count correctly and ended up warming up with my working weight oops. Good job Carrie caught it. Otherwise I would have loaded the bar more to get to my working weight. This was tough but doable. On to 30 kilos next week.

This was definitely hard, but Kat said my form looked good, and that I was getting really good depth.
Then because I thought we were done. So I was going to do some weighted hip extensions and ring rows, but Kat had other plans for me

God I hate burpees. I passed out on the situp mat for a bit afterwards, but I got it done. It felt really good to be back in the gym tonight!
